One of the best 1080p 3D projectors Reviews BenQ W1070 1080P 3D Home Theater Projector

I have been researching 1080p projectors for a long time. I've had the BenQ W1070 1080P 3D Home Theater Projector for almost 9 months, so I've had time to play around with the settings quite a lot. I tried many different configuration settings found on various professional review websites.

I've owned the Mitsubishi 3000u for about 4 years, and it has served me well, but it was past time to upgrade. I was about ready to pull the trigger on a more expensive ($800-$1200) Epson Home Theater Projector, but this guy came out and the reviews are overwhelmingly positive. I am very please with this projector, as I believe its image quality beats many far more expensive units.
  • Built-in speakers are Plug-and-Play ready, only the power cord and video source connection are needed to prepare the viewing experience.
  • 2 HDMI inputs for video and gaming sources
  • The SmartEco Mode, which cleverly adjusts the lamp power to maximize power saving by delivering the best contrast and brightness performance using only as much light as needed.
  • The automatic switch to Eco Blank Mode after the projector is turned on for over three minutes without a display source, eliminating unnecessary energy waste and prolonging the life of the projector lamp.
  • The W1070 is ISF Certified for customization to any room, offering calibration for optimized color performance in both Day and Night modes that can adapt to any room?s layout, size and ambient light levels.
BenQ W1070 1080P Image quality is very good overall. Obviously when compared to my plasma the contrast ratio is not very good but it's serviceable. Bright scenes in particular seem to lose a lot of shadow detail. Regularly exposed scenes and semi-dark scenes look excellent though, especially when fed a high quality HD source like a Blu Ray disc.

Although in darker scenes you tend to get the dreaded "rainbow effect." Menus are straightforward and easy to understand. Speaking of additional costs expect to spend a LOT more if you want the full "home theater" experience. First you'll need a really dark room if you don't want your blacks getting washed out. Definitely not great for day time viewing with lots of ambient light. I also bought a ceiling mount and a fixed frame screen.

BenQ W1070 1080P 3D Home Theater Projector PROs
  • Colors are AMAZING on this projector. There is a reason it is ISF certified.
  • Sharpness and clarity are amazing
  • Brightness is GREAT! This is a bonafide light cannon. With Brilliant Color and Smart Eco on with the Gamma set to 2.2 I can watch pretty much anything I want with pretty good contrast with the lights and lamps on in the room.
  • Black levels are above average.
  • 3D on this projector will blow you away.
I don't care for...
  • I wouldn't consider audible fan noise a con on this projector... its just not SUPER quiet like on larger beasts of projectors.
  • For the first week or so there is a faint smell from the fan that is basically from the bulb burning off manufacturing residue. Its not strong and not a bad smell.
  • Light leakage isn't great. This would be my only official gripe on the projector.
More than 157 people has been buy BenQ W1070 1080P 3D Home Theater Projector and 92% are satisfied (as 12/21/2013).

I originally bought an Elite Screens 120" fixed frame screen but returned it for the 150" ER150WH1 since my wall was large enough to accomodate it. Based on my experience I will definitely be sticking with home theater projectors in the future.
